About Laura Gist

Laura is an American with roots in Texas, Colorado and Alaska. She earned a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education, BA in Communication Disorders with visual art and music minors. Creating a learning environment that promotes opportunities for students and teachers to actively inquire, investigate and co-construct knowledge within a supportive and trusting community is at the foundation of Laura's teaching philosophy. Laura began her teaching career at the International School Manila, ISM. She has been teaching internationally for the past 15 years; working in the Philippines, Italy, Hungary and now Russia teaching in a variety of Early Childhood roles. Laura enjoys swimming, Pilates, traveling, photography, music, ceramics, painting, designing and working with a variety of textiles. She also enjoys her summers in Alaska where she spends time with her niece and nephews fishing, hiking and going on adventures. This is Laura’s third year as the at AAS. The past two years Laura was the Early Years Art and Music Teacher.
