Week 3: Distant Learning, April 6-10, 2020

Dear KGL Families,

Welcome to week 3 of Distant Learning. It’s been great to see all the Seesaw posts coming through and to see how well the children are doing.

‘Live’ Google Meet Session/s:

This Tuesday, tomorrow, children will be asked what their favorite sports team is OR their favorite sport, and why? Optional: wearing a special jersey or you can save this for Thursday or Friday and make a Seesaw posting.

Distant Learning Week 1; March 23-27, 2020

Dear KGL Families,

Tomorrow will be our First Day of Distance Learning.

Hope you are all well. This is a reminder that the main source of Distant Learning for Kindergarten information will be from the Kindergarten Main Page Blog. This information will be posted soon. Each morning will begin with a Morning Message from your own class. On Monday there is a brief recorded message welcoming KGL students before we start the Distance Learning day. Tuesday and Thursday we will have scheduled times to meet with children in small groups to have a ‘Google Meet’ Morning Meeting. (Schedule & Groupings Below) For Tuesday’s Google Meet, the children, Ms. Elena and I have put some signals and expectations in place just as we would in our classroom. Please review these expectations with your child. We hope this will help our ‘Google Meet’ sessions to go more smoothly.

Tuesday & Thursday Morning ‘Google Meet’ Groups for this week:

****Your child must be logged in to Google Chrome with their AAS user name and password. (If you do not remember your child’s email and login information then go to the Language Arts Distance Learning Bag. Inside you will find a paper that is folded in half with a penguin on the front of it. Open up this paper and you will find you child’s email address and login information.)

9:20 am – Group 2: Maddalena, Charlotte, Elliot, Victor

9:40am – Group 3: Emma, Mateo, Una, Jian, Olivia

Important Announcement from P.E. teachers:

The PE team would like to update everyone on the ice skating situation during PE. We have looked at the weather and it is not going to be cold enough for long enough to build a rink this year. Ice skating during PE is canceled for this year. If for some reason this changes we will let you know. We know how much the students enjoy this experience and hopefully next year we will have a colder winter. There are many rinks in the city that are still functioning, it could be a great family outing. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

-Jenny Collins

January Birthdays So Far:

It’s a month full of birthdays for these special people. 🙂

Ms. Elena, Maddalena, Sandra, Emma

Math

Students continued to learn about 2-D and 3-D shapes, different ways of measuring size and weight. This next week we will begin to focus on number bonds, adding and subtracting numbers 1-10.

Language Arts

Students continue to learn new ‘snap words’ and practice the ones they’ve been learning throughout the year. When we learn new words we: Read the word, Study the word, spell the word, Write the word, and Use the word. Children are also learning new games that help them to remember and learn ‘snap words’. Below you will see students playing ‘Snap Word’ Memory Game.

In Writer’s Workshop, we have continued to write narratives. We are adding more details to drawings, labeling our drawings and adding more words to our writing. Students are now focused on listening to the beginning, middle and ending sounds of the words they are reading and writing.

Children continue to read independently choosing ‘just right’ books for them to read on their own or with a friend.

As a group, we are beginning to do an author study. More details soon.
