Grade 2 has begun the Narrative reading & Writing units. Students are learning about and reading narrative stories, and will be writing narratives about their lives (personal narratives). We use a ‘Big Idea’ to help us focus on what we will learn and ask questions to guide us on our learning journey. 

Narrative Writing: 
Big idea: Personal narratives describe true events from your life.

Guiding Questions:
-How do people get ideas from their lives for sharing personal narratives
-How do people make decisions about which stories to tell?
-How do people develop their stories?
-How do we read like writers? (all year-long)

Narrative Reading: 
Big Idea: Narratives stories have different parts and meanings that we can make connections to and enjoy.

Guiding Questions:
-What are the components of a narrative text? (setting, characters, events, structure)
-How do we make meaning from narratives?
-Why do we read stories? Why do you like a story? Why do we return to particular stories?
-How are stories organized?
-How do characters reflect real people?
