Penguin Day & Crazy Hair Day! – Thank you for helping your child dress in black and white and/or fix a crazy hair do today. It was fun!

Market Day! – Thank you for encouraging your child to support other students in our school community. Your child’s purchases were highly appreciated.

Online Learning Packs – Today, your child has come home with an online learning pack. This pack should NOT be opened until your class teacher has informed you to do so. It will come in handy IF AAS moves to a distance learning situation.  Meanwhile, we kindly ask that you keep them in a safe and accessible place.  Please note that all of these books and resources are loans and will be expected to be returned to the school in full at a later date.

How We Express Ourselves – Creativity – We will be combining this unit of inquiry with the matter unit. When we move into this unit, students will use their knowledge about matter to create their own invention to solve a problem. Please kindly send in recyclable materials from home for this. We would like your continued help in collecting recyclable items such as the following:

  • Paper/toilet rolls
  • Egg cartons of any size or shape
  • Small boxes such as cereal boxes
  • Large and small milk and juice cartons, yogurt cartons (clean)
  • Fabric/yarn scraps, buttons, ribbon etc.
  • Cards, magazines (child friendly)

Reading and Writing – As the students experiment with punctuation in their writing, they are also using their punctuation knowledge to add expression to the way they read their writing to others. You will notice that they are carrying over this knowledge to their daily reading as well. Try listening to your child’s reading with a focus on using their expression and how to make it better by focusing on the punctuation the author has used.

Math –  We’ve had a review of the greater than > and less than < signs in math. We are using them to demonstrate our knowledge of place value and  2-digit numbers. Which number is greater, 34 or 43? How do you know? We hope that students will describe these numbers as tens and ones to determine which is bigger.
