Trip to the Kremlin History Museum – On Wednesday, 18th of September, we will be going on our first learning excursion. Please send in a snack, water bottle and packed lunch for this trip as we will not be eating lunch at school that day.

Goal Setting Conferences – Your child is getting ready for his/her goal setting conference on Friday 20th September. Please make sure your child joins you for the conference at your scheduled time. As it is not a regular school day, your child will be coming to school with you and going back home with you as well.  If you have not signed up for this important meeting, please contact the elementary office to choose a time as soon as possible.

UOI – Our garden has been cleaned up and the sunflowers are ready for harvesting. Next step is to till the soil before winter hits. To continue our learning in this unit, we need you to send in some plant products from home. Our focus is moving to resources that come from plants. Please send in an item made from a plant from home. Try to send in items that are not the obvious options. For instance, a cork, items made from cotton, etc., will have the kids thinking beyond direct plant products to those made from plants.

Writing The first grade classes have begun a unit on personal narrative writing. We are writing about things we have experienced first hand. It can be an afternoon in the park, a birthday party, shopping trip or any event we have experienced. Soon we will find that stories are everywhere. You can help your child generate story ideas by simply saying, “That was fun! It would be a great thing to write about.” Talking about events and asking questions can also spark writing ideas. “Remember when you fell off your scooter? That would be a good thing to write about.”

Online Math and Reading – We recommend daily reading with a book from the classroom and playing math games that are recommended in the blog, but if you feel the need to supplement these, you can use ‘Tumblebooks’ or ‘IXL’ at home. Your child will bring home the login information for IXL in their blue folders.
