Who We Are – Culture – This is the title of our first unit of inquiry and it is going to be a great way to get to know each other. What makes us who we are? Often international school students have a great mix of cultural influences – Mum’s, Dad’s, the host country’s.
Please Share Your Culture – As mentioned at Open House, we would like to invite parents to share some of their culture with the class. We are very fortunate to have families from so many different cultural backgrounds and we can learn so much from you. You’re Invited! Please share something important to your family and/or culture with the first graders. There are many ways you can share: How about creating a display for our hallway bulletin board or table? You could visit your child’s classroom and share a special holiday or tradition that is important to your family. Introduce us to some music or a dance from your culture. Share a dish from your home country that your family enjoys. Teach or show us a particular sport or game popular in your culture. Can you think of another way to share your culture with the first graders? It can be 10 minutes or 30 minutes – whatever you are comfortable with. We need you! Please contact your child’s teacher now to volunteer to share!
Me in a Bag – We have enjoyed learning about our classmates as we shared our All About Me bags this week. If your child hasn’t brought in his, please help him to choose 5 objects that are important to him and share it next week.
What should be in my locker? indoor/PE shoes, extra clothes (doesn’t have to be a uniform), raincoat and boots (for wet days and forest walks).
Swimming – All of the grade one classes had their first swimming sessions this week. We will continue to swim on our assigned days all year long. Please bring suit, goggles, towel, swim cap and deck shoes – all labeled – on your child’s swim day.
