Monday is BLU day! BLU – stands for Book Lovers United! The library has invited us to leave our uniforms in the closet and wear blu(e) on Monday to celebrate books and reading. The celebration continues all week and we will be visiting the library for guest readers and other activities. ES students wear blue on Monday!

Thursday Field Trip for 1WJ, 1AO, and 1MS – 1HM and 1DC enjoyed the botanical gardens today. Thank you to our parent chaperones! 1WJ, 1AO and 1MS are looking forward to their botanical garden trip on Thursday. Students will need snack, lunch and water bottle from home.

Friday is Field Day! – Our PE teachers have organized some great activities for us on the field. Check the weather and dress for an extended time outside on Friday.  Hats and labeled water bottles are recommended. Please apply sunscreen at home.

Kuzminki Field Trip on Monday, June 18 – The first graders are buzzing about our trip to the apiary. Thanks to those who have already returned permission slips and volunteered to join us!

Sharing the Planet –  Plants – The students are really showing their green thumbs! (English expression that means they are good at growing and caring for plants. Is there a similar expression in your home language? Share it with your child.) We started with seeds, and have seen sprouts, stretching stems, and lots of new leaves. We’ve enjoyed watching them grow.

Writing – We continue with our informational book writing. Many of the classes have been using the laptops to produce some electronic “all about” books. Ask your child about his/her latest informational book.

Math – We are reviewing many of the skills we worked on this year in math. We keep coming back to the importance of ten and the number pairs that make ten. Do a review of the pairs that make ten by playing Tens Go Fish with playing cards at home.

Leaving AAS? – If your family is leaving AAS, please inform the classroom teacher and the office so that we can say goodbye and make preparations. Also let the teacher know if your child needs to clean out his/her locker and take home school work earlier to accommodate your pack-out day.

Traveling before the last school day? If your child will not be at school through June 20, please let the teacher know so that your child can say goodbye to classmates and bring home belongings. This is also helpful to know numbers when planning our last field trip (June 18) and class party.
